So the first few hours of Hell Yeah Stars last week was a bit challenging, to say the least. We had to tell someone we had JUST MET three words that described them — the good, the bad, and the ugly. Actually, we had to do it two times because we all failed the first time around because we were all just plain too nice!! We had to be honest and say what we really and truly thought of someone — our first impression. Think about that the next time you first meet someone…would you be able to tell them what you truly think? Probably not.
The point of this first exercise was to really recognize how others perceive us. Is it how we think we’re being perceived? Or do others perceive us as something totally different than we perceive ourselves? There were a couple of people who stood up at the mics and were shocked at how the other person perceived them.So what does someone else’s perception have to do with business? Well, the weekend started with figuring out our personality brand. What did we believe in or stand for? And then how do other people perceive us? Is it consistent with our beliefs or what we stand for?
Let’s look at your point of view. What do you really, truly believe in? What’s your opinion? This is the core of what you do and why you do it.
You can then build your business and your products around that. My point of view is that by not delegating, you’re cheating your clients, but more importantly, you’re cheating yourself. And as I learned this last weekend, you have to love yourself above everyone else to be of benefit to others!!
You have to be authentic in everything you do. You might be able to fool yourself, but you won’t be able to fool others! How can you be sure that you’re on the right track? Ask! But don’t be surprised if all you hear is good…ask again! And be ready for the other person to be brutally honest. You’ll need to hear it to become a better person.
Share with me below the three things you think about me! Go ahead…the good, the bad and the ugly!
focused, open & authentic and ok, needs a little more attention to detail (formatting of this post)
HI, Tina. Thank you for your comments. We’ve tried a couple of times to fix the formatting and it keeps reverting back! Just did it again and fingers crossed that it “sticks” this time!
