Mindset is such an important part of our daily lives, from the student getting ready to take their final exams, the athlete about to head out on the field, and the entrepreneur creating the business they want. All want to be in a good place with their mindset.
Have you ever found yourself getting caught up in negative thoughts and it just seems to snowball? There are times that I think, “Oh, I’m so tired,” and it’s like the more I think it, the more tired I feel! It’s like a snowball rolling downhill, and it’s gaining momentum…getting bigger and rolling faster. It would take a mac truck to stop it!
I recently attended Fabienne Frederickson’s Mindset Retreat, finished listening to Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, and am now listening to Joel Osteen’s book, Break Out: 5 Keys to Go Beyond Your Barriers and Live an Extraordinary Life, and I’ve come to realize just how much our own thoughts and beliefs play in our lives.
Your thoughts and your beliefs must be in alignment. So if you are thinking, “I want a million dollar house in the suburbs,” but you believe you’re not worthy or subconsciously believe rich people are snobs, then you’re not in alignment.
And then you have to ask for it. And I’m not saying you ask and then do nothing. If you think it, believe it, ask for it, then you MUST do the work to get it! Take opportunities that come your way, even if they are outside your comfort zone. It’s always a good thing to stretch your limits and go outside your comfort zone – yes, this coming from someone who gets mildly terrified getting uncomfortable! But I do believe in what I want and understand I can’t do it by being comfortable.

Here are four tips to help you get a better mindset:
- Be aware of your thoughts. Are they negative? If so, stop them. Yes, you’ll have negative self-talk, but you must nip it in the bud and refuse to listen. These are the “You’re not good enough,” “Why would someone listen to me,” and “You can’t do that” thoughts that we all deal with from time to time. Put your hand in the air and say, “Talk to hand because I’m not listening.”
- Are your beliefs in alignment? Like I said earlier, if you have negative beliefs around money, then you’re not in alignment with your thoughts. Be aware of your beliefs and change them!
- Ask for and see your vision. You have to ask for what you want. And as Joel says, “Ask big!” And then it goes back to believing. You have to believe that what you ask for will happen.
- Get out there and make things happen. Opportunities will present themselves and you want to make sure you act on those opportunities. You also want to be careful about accepting too many opportunities and end up having to turn something else down. So ask yourself if accepting the opportunity is in alignment with your goals and will take you a step closer to achieving them.
