“Done is better than perfect.” This is what my awesome coach and mentor, Carrie Greene tells me on our coaching calls, and she’s right.
Over the last several weeks I’ve had to remind myself of this many times. At the beginning of the month, I launched my new website. Is it perfect? No… I still have a few pages I need to add and changes to make. Could I have waited until it was perfect? Yes… but then I probably never would have pulled the trigger for my old site to redirect to my new one!
This week I launched my new Infusionsoft training videos. Are they perfect? Nope. I’ve already thought of two videos I need to add, and it’s on my to-do list to get done this week. Could I have waited until they were perfect and I was absolutely positive I had all the videos recorded that I needed? I could have but then I probably would have never launched because, really, when is anything ever 100% perfect and completely done?
Why do some entrepreneurs seem to always be creating great new content while others stagnate? Are you cranking out content and selling it? Or are you stalling and not sharing your knowledge?
Here are five things that can stop people from sharing their
- Fear. Sometimes fear can stop us in our tracks. What will people think? What if it’s not good enough? What if no one is interested? Be confident that you have knowledge to share and people will want your knowledge. By not providing it, you’re depriving those people of that knowledge! Don’t let the negative self-talk pull you down! Find someone who can help boost your confidence.
- Time management. It can just plain be hard to find the time to create the product. What I found is that you should treat yourself like a client and schedule that time to work on the task. Schedule this depending on your style. Is it better to schedule a larger block of time or smaller blocks of time over several weeks? Give yourself a
- Overwhelm. The project you need to tackle can feel too large and trying to figure what to do first and where to start can just be overwhelming. Make a list of all the steps you need to take to complete the project. Now, what do you need to do first?
- Lack of accountability. When you don’t have someone to hold your feet to the fire, you may not finish projects that you should. Think about deadlines given to you by clients. Do you meet those deadlines? Find someone to help hold you accountable, be it a friend, colleague or coach.
- No motivation. Sometimes we’re not motivated by the project we want to work on. Stop and look deep inside. Is the project you’re trying to do something you’re passionate about? If not, maybe it’s not a project you should do. If you are passionate about it, then follow the previous four steps and get moving on it!
For my website and training videos, I didn’t have all of these problems, but I did have a few of them. Luckily I have my coach and colleagues to support me and give me gentle pushes (and yes, sometimes a swift kick in the butt) when I need them!
